Master of Arts (MA) is the two-year postgraduate degree in the humanities and social sciences, taken in a single subject such as English, Nepali, Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, Rural Development or Mass Communication and Journalism.
The first year covers the core of the discipline; the second year moves to specialised papers and a thesis or dissertation.
It is the standard qualification for college teaching in the humanities, for research posts, and for many officer-level government and development jobs.
