Bachelor of Science in Microbiology

Bachelor of Science in Microbiology is a four-year specialised science degree studying micro-organisms and their role in disease, food, industry and the environment.

Laboratory work dominates: culturing and identifying organisms, sterile technique, staining, antibiotic sensitivity testing and molecular methods. Most programmes end with a research project and a placement in a diagnostic or research laboratory.

Graduates work in hospital and food laboratories, pharmaceutical quality control, breweries and dairies, and public health and research institutions.
