Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is the degree required to practise as a dentist in Nepal. It takes four years of academic study followed by a compulsory one-year internship in a teaching hospital.

Students share the basic medical sciences with MBBS students in the early years, then move into dental anatomy, oral pathology, conservative dentistry, prosthodontics, orthodontics and oral surgery, with clinical work on patients from the third year.

Admission runs through the same Medical Education Commission entrance as MBBS, and graduates register with the Nepal Medical Council.
