Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is the qualifying degree for doctors in Nepal. It runs four and a half years of academic study followed by a compulsory rotating internship of one year.

The first two years cover basic sciences — anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology and microbiology — before clinical postings in medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and community medicine.

Admission is entirely through the Medical Education Commission's common entrance examination, and both fees and the number of seats at each college are regulated by the Commission. Graduates must register with the Nepal Medical Council to practise.
