How to Get a Scholarship for BCA or BSc CSIT in Nepal
BCA scholarship Nepal and BSc CSIT scholarship guide for 2083/84: TU 10% full scholarship seats, eligibility, college schemes, documents and how to apply.

A BCA scholarship in Nepal or a BSc CSIT scholarship in Nepal can cut your tuition bill partly or fully. From the 2083/084 academic year, every Tribhuvan University (TU) campus must reserve 10% of its approved seats for full scholarships. On top of that, many private colleges run their own merit, entrance and need-based fee waivers.
This guide explains each type of support separately for BCA and BSc CSIT. You will learn who qualifies, what each scholarship actually covers, which documents to prepare, and when to apply in the current admission cycle.
- up students (CollegeNP, 19 July 2026).
- Entrance-based scholarships. Some colleges rank applicants using the FoHSS entrance score combined with +2 GPA, then assign a waiver bracket.
- +2 academic merit scholarships. Fee waivers scaled to your Grade 12 GPA. Higher GPA means a larger waiver.
- Need-based assistance. Partial or full support for students with documented financial hardship.
- College scholarship tests. Some private colleges hold their own test before admission and reward top scorers.
- Semester performance awards. Waivers or prizes for semester toppers, usually renewed each term.
- Early-admission discounts. Offered by some colleges for fast enrolment. Treat these as discounts, not scholarships.
BCA Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
● Pass the TU FoHSS BCA entrance. This is required for admission to any TU BCA campus.
● Complete Grade 12 or equivalent. Check the current FoHSS notice for the accepted streams and minimum marks.
● Rank well on merit. TU quota seats and college brackets both reward higher entrance and +2 results.
● Prove financial need, if applying for need-based support. Expect to submit an income or recommendation letter from your ward office.
● Meet inclusion criteria, if applicable. Reserved seats for women, Dalit, Janajati, Madhesi and other targeted groups follow TU and government policy.
There is no single national GPA cut-off for a BCA scholarship. Each college sets its own brackets, so compare published schemes before you apply.
BCA Scholarship Amount and Benefits
● TU quota seats: full scholarship. Ask the campus whether this covers only tuition or also admission and exam fees.
● College merit schemes: partial tuition waivers plus admission or semester fee waivers. United College, for example, publishes 20% to 75% tuition brackets.
● Duration: most schemes run for the whole programme, but continuation depends on passing every exam and following college rules.
For context, TU BCA fees at affiliated colleges span roughly NPR 4 lakh to 12 lakh for the full programme, according to FoHSS. A 40% waiver can therefore save you well over NPR 1.5 lakh.

BSc CSIT Scholarship in Nepal
BSc Computer Science and Information Technology (BSc CSIT) is run by TU's Institute of Science and Technology (IOST). IOST sets the curriculum, holds the entrance, publishes the merit list and allocates seats through a college priority form. Because of this central system, BSc CSIT scholarships are tied more tightly to your entrance rank than BCA ones.
Types of BSc CSIT Scholarships Available in Nepal
- Jehendar (merit) scholarship. Under IOST's Scholarship Guideline 2079, every affiliated college awards one jehendar scholarship to a male student and one to a female student, per programme, for each year or semester.
- Free-ship (nishulka chhatravritti). The same guideline requires affiliated colleges to give free-ship to 10% of students in each year or semester. Half the seats are open and half are reserved for listed groups.
- TU 10% full scholarship seats. TU's July 2026 directive enforces a 10% full-scholarship quota at every campus from 2083/084, building on these existing rules.
- Entrance rank-based college scholarships. Many affiliated colleges grade extra waivers by your IOST entrance rank.
- Partial tuition waivers. College-level percentages for strong +2 or entrance results.
- Semester performance awards. College prizes or waivers for semester toppers.
- Constituent campus quotas and subsidy. Government campuses run their own jehendar and free-ship quotas (10% to 20%, depending on how the programme is funded) and already charge lower fees. A low fee is a subsidy, not a scholarship.
BSc CSIT Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
● Pass the IOST entrance. The exam is out of 100 with a pass mark of 35.
● Hold a +2 in science with Physics and Mathematics, or an equivalent qualification accepted by IOST.
● Jehendar, first semester: chosen on IOST entrance merit. The Dean's office sends each college the names of its first-semester jehendar students.
● Jehendar, later semesters: chosen on the previous semester's final results. You must have passed every subject with at least 50% aggregate.
● Separate male and female quotas. Male students cannot apply for the female quota, or the reverse. At a women's campus, both go to female students.
● Free-ship, open quota (50%): you must have passed SEE or SLC from a government community school.
● Free-ship, reserved quota (50%): you must have studied at a government community school from Grade 8 and belong to a listed group (see the table below).
● One scholarship only. A jehendar recipient cannot also receive free-ship.
● Stay at your college. A scholarship is not kept if you transfer to another campus.
● Inclusive admission quota. IOST also publishes a separate inclusive quota (samabeshi kota) notice for admission. The 2083 notice was issued on 9 August 2026 on iost.tu.edu.np.
BSc CSIT Scholarship Amount and Coverage
● Jehendar at an affiliated college: you pay no more than 5% of total fees. TU exam, registration and service fees are charged separately.
● Free-ship at an affiliated college: you pay no more than 7% of total fees, again excluding TU exam, registration and service fees.
● Refund timing: a college may collect fees at admission, then refund the free-ship amount in one lump sum before the year or semester exam form.
● Renewal: free-ship continues into later semesters. If a holder fails, drops out or transfers, the seat goes to the next eligible student on the previous semester's results. Jehendar is re-decided every semester.
● Blind students: up to three per academic year receive NPR 1,500 a month for one year, on the recommendation of the Nepal Association of the Blind.
● 2083/084 directive: TU describes the new 10% seats as full scholarships. Ask your college exactly which fees they cover.

How the IOST Free-ship Reserved Quota Is Divided
Half of all IOST free-ship seats are reserved. The reserved half is split as follows, and you must submit a certificate from the listed body.

BCA vs BSc CSIT Scholarship in Nepal
The biggest difference is who controls admission. IOST allocates BSc CSIT seats centrally by rank, while BCA admission is handled college by college after the FoHSS entrance. That shapes how scholarships are awarded.
| Comparison | BCA | BSc CSIT |
| TU body | Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FoHSS) | Institute of Science and Technology (IOST) |
| Entrance exam | TU FoHSS BCA entrance | TU IOST BSc CSIT entrance |
| 2083 entrance date | Shrawan 31, 2083 (16 August 2026) | Shrawan 24, 2083 (9 August 2026) |
| Seat allocation | Apply to colleges directly with your entrance result | Central merit list plus college priority form |
| TU full scholarship seats | 10% of approved seats from 2083/084 | 10% of approved seats from 2083/084 |
| Extra TU merit scheme | No public FoHSS guideline; ask your campus | Jehendar (1 male + 1 female per semester) and 10% free-ship, under IOST Guideline 2079 |
| +2 requirement | Grade 12 in any stream (check notice) | +2 science with Physics and Mathematics |
| College schemes | Common, often tied to +2 GPA and college tests | Common, often tied to IOST entrance rank |
If you are eligible for both, BSc CSIT scholarships favour a strong entrance rank. BCA scholarships give more weight to your +2 GPA and individual college tests.

Tips to Increase Your Chances of Getting a Scholarship
● Prepare early for the entrance. For BSc CSIT especially, rank decides both your college and your scholarship.
● Protect your +2 GPA. College brackets are GPA-based; United College's lowest BCA bracket, for example, starts above GPA 2.80.
● Apply to more than one college. Schemes differ widely.
● Gather financial documents before results. Ward office letters take time.
● Check official websites weekly from Asar to Bhadra.
● Ask about renewal rules. Failing a single exam can end a scholarship.
Frequently Asked Questions About BCA and BSc CSIT Scholarships in Nepal
BCA scholarship FAQs
1. Can I get a 100% scholarship in BCA in Nepal?
Yes. From 2083/084, every TU campus offering BCA must reserve 10% of approved seats for full scholarships. Some private colleges also give 100% admission or semester fee waivers to toppers. Ask whether "full" covers tuition only or all fees.
2. What GPA is required for a BCA scholarship?
There is no single national cut-off. Each college publishes its own GPA brackets. United College, for instance, starts its BCA waivers above GPA 2.80 and offers its largest waivers to college toppers. TU quota seats also weigh merit and economic need.
3. Is there a TU scholarship quota for BCA students?
Yes. TU directed all constituent and affiliated campuses to reserve 10% of approved seats as full scholarship seats from 2083/084, prioritising meritorious, economically disadvantaged and targeted-group students. Campuses must publish the details on their websites.
4. How can I apply for a BCA scholarship in Nepal?
Pass the TU FoHSS BCA entrance, then apply at your chosen campus for its TU scholarship seats and any college scheme. Submit your marksheets, entrance scorecard and, for need-based seats, a ward office recommendation. Confirm the award in writing before paying fees.
5. Does the BCA entrance exam determine scholarship eligibility?
It determines admission eligibility, which is required for any TU-route scholarship. Many colleges also combine your entrance score with +2 GPA to set your waiver bracket.
6. Which colleges offer BCA scholarships in Kathmandu?
All TU BCA campuses must offer 10% full scholarship seats. Among private colleges, United College in Lalitpur publishes GPA-based waivers, and Kathford in Lalitpur ran a 2083 scholarship test. Check each college's current notice.
7. Can students get scholarships based on +2 results?
Yes. +2 GPA is the most common basis for private-college BCA waivers. Higher GPA brackets earn larger tuition, admission and semester fee reductions.
8. Are BCA scholarships available for financially disadvantaged students?
Yes. TU's 10% seats prioritise economically disadvantaged students, and some colleges run separate need-based support. Prepare an income or economic status letter from your ward office.
BSc CSIT scholarship FAQs
9. Can I study BSc CSIT with a full scholarship in Nepal?
Nearly. IOST's jehendar scholarship leaves you paying at most 5% of fees, and free-ship at most 7%, plus TU exam and registration fees. TU's 2083/084 directive adds full scholarship seats for 10% of students. A top entrance rank gives you the best chance.
10. How many scholarships are available for BSc CSIT students?
Each IOST affiliated college gives free-ship to 10% of students in every year or semester, plus two jehendar scholarships (one male, one female) per programme. For example, a batch of 48 students would have about 5 free-ship holders and 2 jehendar holders. College schemes come on top.
11. What entrance rank is required for a BSc CSIT scholarship?
There is no fixed rank. For the first-semester jehendar scholarship, IOST picks the top-ranked male and female entrant admitted to each college. So your rank only needs to be the best among students at your college, not nationally.
12. Does TU provide full scholarships for BSc CSIT?
Yes. IOST's Scholarship Guideline 2079 gives a jehendar scholarship to the top male and top female student per programme at every affiliated college, each semester. Holders pay at most 5% of fees. TU's 2083/084 directive also requires 10% full scholarship seats.
13. Are scholarships available in private BSc CSIT colleges?
Yes. Private IOST-affiliated colleges must honour the 10% rule and many add their own rank-based or semester-based waivers.
14. How much does BSc CSIT cost after receiving a scholarship?
A full scholarship can reduce tuition to zero, though you may still pay admission, exam or lab fees. Partial waivers reduce tuition by the stated percentage. Ask each college for a written fee breakdown.
15. Can students get scholarships based on semester results?
Yes. After the first semester, IOST awards jehendar scholarships on the previous semester's final results. You need to have passed every subject with at least 50% aggregate. Many colleges also reward semester toppers.
