What Is CMAT Nepal?
What does CMAT stand for?
CMAT stands for Central Management Admission Test. It is a single, centrally run entrance exam for FoM bachelor's programs. One test replaces separate entrance exams at each campus.
Who conducts CMAT in Nepal?
The Office of the Dean, Faculty of Management, Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur conducts the exam. It publishes notices, exam centres and results on its official websites.
Why is CMAT required?
TU uses CMAT to test aptitude fairly across applicants from different +2 streams. Passing CMAT is mandatory. An applicant who does not sit the test cannot be admitted to these programs for that academic year, according to the FoM's 2026 notice.
Which bachelor's programs require CMAT?
The FoM's CMAT notice for the 2026 admission batch lists eight programs:
| Program | Full name |
| BBA | Bachelor of Business Administration |
| BBM | Bachelor of Business Management |
| BITM | Bachelor of Information Technology Management [VERIFY full name] |
| BPA | Bachelor of Public Administration |
| BHM | Bachelor of Hotel Management |
| BTTM | Bachelor of Travel and Tourism Management |
| BBA-F | Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance |
| BMS | Bachelor of Mountaineering Studies |
BBS, TU's annual-system management degree, does not use CMAT.

CMAT Eligibility Criteria in Nepal
You are eligible for CMAT Nepal if you meet any one of the three conditions below, as set out in the FoM's 2026 notice. Your +2 stream does not matter. Science, management, humanities and education students can all apply.
Grade 11 and 12 requirements (letter grading)
● A minimum grade of D in each theory subject and C in each practical subject
● A combined CGPA of 1.8 or higher across Grades 11 and 12
Second-division eligibility (old system)
If you completed 10+2, PCL or an equivalent qualification under the percentage system, you need at least a second division in any discipline.
Students awaiting Grade 12 results
You can apply before your Grade 11 or 12 results are out. However, you must submit pass certificates for both grades at the time of admission. If you do not meet the CGPA and grade rules when results arrive, your CMAT pass will not secure admission.
Required documents
Keep these ready before you fill the form. VERIFY: confirm the exact list in the current notice or with your campus.
● A recent passport-size photograph (digital copy)
● Citizenship certificate or birth certificate (digital copy)
● Grade 10 (SEE) transcript or character certificate
● Grade 11 and 12 transcripts, if results are out
● connectIPS payment confirmation of Rs. 1,000
How to Apply for CMAT Nepal
CMAT registration in Nepal is online, followed by a physical verification at your chosen campus. Missing the campus verification deadline makes your form invalid, even if you have paid.
Where to find the application form
The online CMAT application form is linked from the FoM websites, fomecd.edu.np and tudoms.org, once the notice is published. Do not use forms shared on social media or third-party sites.
Step-by-step CMAT registration process
- Open the official form. Go to the CMAT application link on fomecd.edu.np or tudoms.org.
- Enter your details. Fill in personal information, academic records and your preferred program.
- Choose your campus and test centre. Select a campus that runs your program. For RE-CMAT 2083, you also picked one of seven test centres.
- Upload documents. Add your photo and the requested certificates.
- Pay the fee. Pay Rs. 1,000 through connectIPS to the Management Dean's Office account given in the notice.
- Submit and save. Submit the form and download or screenshot your confirmation.
- Verify at the campus. Visit the chosen campus with your documents before the verification deadline (3:00 PM, 5 August, for CMAT 2083).
How to check application status
After campus verification, check your form status at tudoms.org/cmat/status. Contact your campus immediately if your form shows as unverified.
How to download the admit card
VERIFY: TU's admit card or roll-number process for the current cycle, then add the steps here. Carry your admit card or roll number and a valid photo ID on exam day.
CMAT Nepal Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme
The CMAT exam is a paper-based test of 100 multiple-choice questions worth 100 marks, completed in 90 minutes. There is no negative marking, and the pass mark is 40.
| Feature | Details |
| Mode | Pen and paper (OMR answer sheet) |
| Total questions | 100 |
| Total marks | 100 (1 mark per question) |
| Duration | 90 minutes |
| Question type | Multiple choice, four options |
| Negative marking | None |
| Qualifying marks | 40 (40%) |
Negative marking
There is no negative marking in CMAT Nepal. TU's model paper instructs students to attempt every question. Never leave an answer blank.
Qualifying marks
You need at least 40 out of 100 to pass CMAT. Passing only makes you eligible for the next stage. Competitive campuses shortlist from the top of the merit list, so a score well above 40 matters.
Interview and admission selection process
After CMAT, each campus runs its own selection. The FoM's 2026 result notice set these weightings:
| Programs | CMAT score | +2 score | Group discussion | Interview |
| BBA, BBM, BITM, BPA, BBA-F | 60% | 30% | None | 10% |
| BHM, BTTM, BMS | 50% | 30% | 10% | 10% |
Some campuses use a presentation instead of, or alongside, the interview. Check your campus's own admission notice.

How to Prepare for CMAT Nepal
Good CMAT preparation in Nepal comes down to three habits: daily practice in every section, weekly timed mock tests and steady reading of current affairs. You have 90 minutes for 100 questions, so speed matters as much as accuracy.
Preparation strategies for each subject
| Section | What to do | Daily time |
| Verbal Ability | Learn 10 new words a day with usage. Read one English editorial and summarise it. Revise prepositions and idioms. | 30–45 min |
| Quantitative Ability | Revise Grade 10 maths formulas first. Solve 20 problems a day, focusing on percentages, ratios and interest. | 60 min |
| Logical Reasoning | Practise one question type per day: series, coding, blood relations, directions. | 30 min |
| General Awareness | Read a national daily. Keep a notebook of appointments, awards, sports results and economic figures. | 20–30 min |
| Business and Economics | Learn common business abbreviations, banking terms and the main points of Nepal's latest budget. | 20 min |
Time management in the exam
● Spend about 50 seconds per question on average.
● Start with your strongest section to bank marks early.
● Skip a question that takes more than 90 seconds, then return to it.
● Keep the last 5 minutes to fill every blank bubble. There is no negative marking.
Important topics to prioritise
Percentages, ratio and proportion, profit and loss, synonyms and antonyms, series and coding usually return the most marks for the time you invest. They are also the foundation for harder questions.
Common mistakes to avoid
● Studying only maths and ignoring General Awareness
● Taking no full-length timed mock tests before exam day
● Leaving questions blank despite no negative marking
● Missing the campus verification deadline after paying the fee
● Relying on unofficial sites for dates and results
Recommended preparation resources
● TU FoM model question paper (official format reference)
● CMAT past papers with answers
● A Grade 10 compulsory maths textbook for formula revision
● A national English daily for vocabulary and current affairs

CMAT Nepal Result and Admission Process
TU usually publishes the CMAT result within a few days of the exam. In 2026, the main CMAT result came out two days after the test, and the RE-CMAT result the next day.
How to check your CMAT result
- Visit tudoms.org/cmat/status or fomecd.edu.np.
- Open the CMAT result link for your exam (CMAT or RE-CMAT).
- Enter your roll number or application details.
- Note your result and save a screenshot for admission.
How to understand your score
Your score is out of 100. A score of 40 or more means you have passed. Your score then carries 50–60% of the weight in your campus merit list, depending on the program.
Qualifying marks versus admission merit
Passing CMAT does not guarantee a seat. Seats are limited, and popular campuses fill them from the top of the merit list. Aim well above 40, especially for well-known constituent campuses.
Interview and group discussion
Shortlisted students attend an interview at the campus. BHM, BTTM and BMS applicants also take part in a group discussion. Some campuses add a short presentation.
Merit list and selection
Each campus combines your CMAT score, +2 score and interview marks using the weightings in the exam pattern section. It then publishes its own merit list and waiting list.
Admission procedure
- Check your campus's merit list.
- Submit original documents, including Grade 11 and 12 transcripts.
- Pay the admission fee by the campus deadline.
- Collect your registration details and class schedule.
What is RE-CMAT?
RE-CMAT is a second sitting of the same test for students who missed the main CMAT [VERIFY whether students who failed may also sit]. In 2026, it was held on 3 October. It follows the same eligibility rules, fee and format.
TU-Affiliated Colleges Accepting CMAT
Every TU constituent and affiliated campus that runs a FoM bachelor's program admits students through CMAT. These include constituent campuses and many private affiliated colleges across Nepal.
